Design features

Stiffness

Most of the twisting forces and lateral loads are absorbed by the lower part of the frame. The head tube, down tube and chainstays resist the stresses and efficiently transfer the power to the rear wheel. The more torsion-resistant the frame is here, the more power is transferred from the legs directly to the ground and the more immediate the power transmission.

Quiet running

Orbea has carefully studied how the rider's weight affects the frame. With the knowledge gained, they can influence how vibrations are transmitted through the upper part of the frame. For example, the new Alma has thinner seat stays.

Thanks to their reduced cross-section and diameter, they provide a graceful support for the seat tube. The top tube, on the other hand, is particularly robust at the front of the head tube to increase torsional stiffness. Towards the rear, however, the top tube tapers rapidly to save material and thus weight. The damping properties achieved by the carbon layup and the narrow design of the top tube and seat stays give the Alma a dynamic yet smooth ride, with which the bike just glides along over rough ground. The effect is subtle but noticeable. At the end of a tough race, just such a detail can make the difference between a place on the podium and the consolation prize.

Flat Mount

The low brake mount provides the cleanest, stiffest and lightest integration of the brake body.

ICR

The cables are specifically routed through the inside of the frame so that nothing rubs or rattles. The cable routing is optimised for both mechanical and electronic circuits.

OC Cockpit

With the unique design of the OC steering head, spacer and stem, Orbea's cross-country family has been given a completely new, integrated look. This also includes the optional holder for the bike computer, which is compatible with all common brands via an adapter. The interaction of the OC components completes the high-end claim of this modern cross-country bike.
