Über Orbea
Orbea ist ein spanischer Fahrradhersteller mit Sitz im radsportbegeisterten Baskenland. Orbea ist eine der ältesten Fahrradmarken der Welt, obwohl das Unternehmen 1840 ursprünglich als Waffenhersteller gegründet wurde. Nach dem Ende des Ersten Weltkriegs beschloss man, das in der Waffenproduktion erworbene Know-how in der Bearbeitung von Stahlrohren für die Herstellung von Fahrrädern zu nutzen, und 1931 erschien der erste Orbea-Fahrradkatalog mit drei Modellen.Nachdem der Hersteller in den 60er Jahren in finanzielle Schwierigkeiten geriet, kaufte 1969 ein Teil der Belegschaft das Unternehmen auf und gründete eine Genossenschaft - bis heute ist Orbea im Besitz der Belegschaft, was eine in der Fahrradbranche einzigartige Motivation schafft.
Heute ist Orbea Teil der genossenschaftlichen Unternehmensgruppe Mondragón Corporación Cooperativa und kann bei der Entwicklung seiner Fahrräder auf Ressourcen wie den Windkanal der Universität Mondragón zurückgreifen.

Orbea stellt die Aluminiumrahmen direkt in der Fabrik in Mallabia her. Die Endbearbeitung und Lackierung der Rahmen erfolgt ebenfalls in Spanien, nur die Carbonrahmen der Spitzenklasse werden in China hergestellt. Auf diese Weise kann Orbea seinen Kunden eine unvergleichliche Freiheit bei der Personalisierung ihrer Fahrräder bieten, von der Ausstattung bis hin zur Lackierung, und das zu einem konkurrenzlos günstigen Preis.Förderung des Radsports und Geschichte
Bereits 1934 nahm Orbea mit dem Orbea Road Cycling Team an der Tour de France teil.
